Looking for a unique natural ingredient to add to your skincare routine? The benefits of Matcha are endless.

what is matcha and where did it come from?

Matcha is a fine loose powder made from ground up dried green tea leaves. Some of its many benefits include the ability to naturally fight off disease-causing free radicals, promote relaxation, exhibit anti-inflammatory effects, and much more.

Originating in China, but now primarily grown in two Japanese regions, matcha powder has always been prominent in Japanese culture. Tea leaves grown for matcha are shade grown for a period of three weeks in order to increase the amount of chlorophyll and amino acids being produced in the tea leaves. This excess chlorophyll production is what gives matcha its distinct bright green colour. When the leaves are ready, they are steamed, dried, destemmed, deveined and ground into a fine powder, known as matcha powder. This powder is packed with antioxidants and boasts an array of benefits for skin and general health and is widely used around the world today.

the benefits

  1. high in antioxidants

Matcha powder is packed with antioxidants, specifically catechins. Catechins are a family of antioxidants that have been associated with lowering the risk of serious diseases and certain types of cancer, while also maintaining health in general. Antioxidants in matcha fight against free radicals in your body, preventing damage to your body’s cells and tissues, resulting in healthy cells and a healthy body!

  2. boost relaxation

Matcha powder contains amino acids that aid in promoting relaxation and stress reduction. Specifically, the amino acid L-theanine found in matcha has been linked to the ability to help increase alpha waves in your brain, which have been associated with mental relaxation and the ability to reduce stress signals to the brain.

  3. anti-inflammatory properties

Matcha powder is overflowing with antioxidants that help rejuvenate skin cells and support skin health. Some antioxidants found in matcha exhibit anti-inflammatory properties which can be used to combat a number of skin disorders, such as eczema, as well as other inflammation driven chronic disorders, such as IBD.
